The Creation
The Great Lord, The Absolute for whatever reasons designed this creation of which we are all a part. The Cosmos is always vibrant and moving, it has unfathomable dimensions and eons of life. What appears to exist is a very narrow vision of an individual mind. What is existing, can’t be perceived, neither can it be imagined, nor can it be probed. The entire Cosmos is bustling with force and energy at each level. There are worlds within worlds. It’s the most mysterious and wonderful phenomenon. The ancient scriptures call it Mahamaya or Prakrati or the illusory power of the Lord. This power is the most magical wonder, which since the times of creation has, had people wondering what exactly is this Cosmos and what goes on in it.What is this Supernatural Phenomenon?
In this entire universe where does one stand as an individual. If one thinks about it, one may feel so small and visualize that one may not be even a pressure point when we consider the magnitude and quantum of life present in this Cosmos. An intelligent human is aware that an evolution is going on.He realizes that the same Lord creates each and every being in this manifestation. Just as the Sun, though seen reflected in water remains unaffected by the attributes of the water, so is the Lord.He dwells in each being as a soul, which makes that very being vibrant and aware. However, He is not affected by the pain and pleasures the being suffers. In Sanskrit language this being is called a Jiva.Jiva is that which vibrates with life. Each Jiva moves from one body to another, with the evolution of time and distance involving birth, growth and death of each body in each birth.
The individualized soul or consciousness (being) when exposed to this divine play through his individualized mind, when born sees this vast illusion called nature. The nature appears full of countless beings and it is magnificently diverse and full of temptations. One is attracted towards various objects and one interacts with these objects causing a reaction. The glittering objects created for the purpose of the mind to react makes an individual accrue merit or demerit called virtue and sin. One is lost in tides of cause and effect, action and re-action.In a particular incarnation one keeps sorting out the liability of the previous births and simultaneously create more liability through various deeds and interactions. The senses cannot perceive the true reality in the outer world despite being aware of it.The true reality according to the sages is diametrically opposite to what we believe to be the truth that it is very difficult for a normal human being to swallow.
The illusory effect of nature gives multiplicity, diversity, subject-object difference, sense of space and time and body sense. It makes one think that one is a body constituting of flesh, bones, blood, phlegm, urine, pus etc. Think! Am I bones, blood, feet or body? Do I die when the body is declared dead? Where do I go and what happens to me after the body perishes in a cremation or buried in a graveyard or devoured by nature. Would that be my end?All these questions are queried to themselves by beings of high intellect. Now this intelligent being gets really curious and seriously starts to question himself if I’m not the body who am I? Or what is the reality? He gets no answer. The fact is, if one thinksdeeply, the most perplexing and intricate thing one finds is ignorance about ones own-self.He further questions himself, why am I here, what will happen to me after I leave the mortal coil?Who are these people who I am interacting with? They too will perish according to their destinies. Where will they go?To most, a chill goes up the spine and one cannot find a real answer. It is for the first time probably one wonders about himself, this mystical world and creation.
The Supreme Lord who is Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient at the time of creation of this wonderful creative mystical energy called nature, had also revealed means of illumination of the enlightenment to the seekers of truth or God, so that they could attain the state of illumination in knowledge, nirvana or immortality. He himself has revealed this divine science on many occasions to many enlightened beings for the benefits of his own created beings so that the persons in ages to come could know the truth and could actually transcend the present states of consciousness and reach the state of Super-consciousness or the Knowledge of the Self. This system of knowing the Self or God or Atman is termed as yoga. Yoga means union of an Individualized Soul with Supreme Soul or knowing the Truth or the Absolute.
Yoga, which means union of an individual with the Supreme, involves transcending the present state of consciousness and getting into the higher states of visualization. Godis omnipresent, so where is He?Why don’t we see Him? The reason is that He is subtlest indescribable Absolute. How can oneperceive Universality with a naked eye? So to know the Supreme Being one has to undergo a systematic and graded yogic practice involving many aspects and subjects. To a keen student with diligence, determination and sense of sacrifice this is simple. To the indifferent and ignorant it is a mystery, a riddle, one cannot visualize oneself transcending the present state of Consciousness and merging with God.People who have not treaded this path are likely to dismiss this as mere fantasy. It is not an imagination by any standard it is the most pertinent truth. It is for the good of the world and individuals that Holy Scriptures are written and preached time and again to deliver us from the rudimentary material life most of us live for fulfillment of our wanton desires only.
