States of Mind
Every individual has three states of mind. The wakeful state, the dream state and the deep sleep state. There could be certain permutations and combinations within the three states. In samadhi one reaches the fourth state of mind called Turiya, in which one transcends the existing states of mind and plane of consciousness. Mind is subtle, it is something, which makes us all act, but we cannot see it.It is through this mind that we perceive the world and experience it.All that we perceive and experience is through the senses and outside us, so the mind remains focused outward and gets so used to it that due the habit of previous incarnations and design of the creation that a Herculean effort is required to purify it.Unless proper purification of mind is carried out by spiritual practices one cannot reach the state of Turiya.Hence all the practices mentioned above are to facilitate the achievement of Turiya.
