Guru Disciple Relationship

Guru is treated as beyond the realm of human affairs.   He only deals with spiritual evolution of the disciple he generally does not interfere in the disciple’s personal life. Only when disciple is in higher stages of Yoga and tends to falter, he may intervene and ensure that the disciple avoids a spiritual fall.

The Guru respects the feelings and sentiments of the disciple, treats him with dignity and respect. The disciple can be reprimanded or ignored if he tends to get astray. The Guru is compassionate towards his disciple, he is aware of the strengths and weaknesses of his disciple accordingly he imparts instructions to a follower. The Guru’s vision is much higher than one can comprehend or think.

The disciple is gradually unfolded the secrets.   Never be in a hurry.    A child is not given a gem to play with.    Due to ignorance most people think too big about themselves.  They feel they are very intelligent and highly qualified.  They can be politicians, diplomats, military brass, doctors, a priest etc. Let me be candid, before a Guru one is Zero.     What so ever may be the material knowledge and stature of a person one cannot be any where near the knowledge and enlightenment of a Yogi.  Hence be very humble and gentle before a sage.   Knowledge can be written on a blank page not on a page on which there is no space for writing.

A disciple should never argue with the Guru or show off own knowledge, it’s forbidden by scriptures because the disciple doesn’t know what is good for him, showing knowledge indicates excess ego and lack of humility.   One should speak, only when spoken to. Never hide anything from the Guru or tell lies.   He may already know your intentions and desires yet remember unless you open your heart nothing will pour into it. You can speak on any doubt you wish to or seek counsel.

The Guru-disciple relationship is sacred; the bond is thicker than father and son.

The father only ensures physical and material growth of the child. The Guru looks after the evolutionary cycle or grants Nirvikalpa Samadhi to his deserving disciple. The Guru brings the aspirant to the right purity and frame of mind for the higher values and realizations other than everyday life.

The process of attaining immortality is not that simple for most of the people because of lack of knowledge and faith.   Faith is validated by Knowledge, to get true knowledge besides other requirements the mind has to be purified because what ever we do and perceive is due to the mind.    Impure mind full of restlessness and petty desires cannot gather knowledge.  The imagination and forethought is so poor that subtle issues just do not register.  The Guru knows his disciples mind through the institutive eye and tells him the correct technique to purify the mind.  Most of us do not know what is this mind; unless we know the mind we will not be able to control it.
